Investing in Our Communities

Farmers National Bank continues to give back to our community. As a strong, local community bank, Farmers has the honor and privilege of supporting the organizations that make our valley a better place to live and work. Local decision-making gives us the ability to financially support the projects and services that make the biggest impact on our neighbors and community. Commitment — whether to our home area or our neighbors — is the bedrock principle for Farmers.

History

Farmers was founded on February 19, 1887 by a group of local businessmen to serve the needs of the growing community. The group purchased 500 shares of stock valued at $100 each to begin their banking venture. Alexander Dickson, a former school teacher, Civil War captain and Treasurer of Mahoning County, was named the bank’s president at its first charter meeting.

On the bank’s first day of business, a total of $170 was deposited from a tavern keeper, barber, school master, two tailors and a housewife.

Today, Farmers is still located in the heart of Canfield on the town’s historic green. The bank serves as a reminder of the past and a declaration of its commitment to the community in the future. It remains visibly at the center of our town’s activities — a place where residents still gather for parades, picnics and concerts.

From humble beginnings with a single employee, Farmers has grown to include 62 banking locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. And we continue to evolve to better meet the ever-changing needs of the community without losing sight of what has made us so strong: personal, one-on-one service. We believe Alex Dickson would still be proud of his bank today.
